Fast and Furious 6 (2013) movie review

I’m glad that these films have finally hit their stride. Fast 5 was the big game changer, and Fast and Furious 6 continues this streak of greatness.

Just take a moment to look at how far this franchise has come. It went from simple street racing in movies that didn’t try to be anything more than they were, to these big, awe inspiring heist movies. They truly have become better with time. And Fast and Furious 6 delivers more of what was loved in Fast 5, while somehow bringing it up a notch. Seriously, if you saw the original 2001 Fast and Furious, would you have predicted to see those characters taking on freaking battle tanks and jumbo sized airplanes?! I sure didn’t! And it is indeed as cool as it sounds.

In this movie, there’s a team of criminals lead by Luke Evans that Dwayne Johnson needs to take down, but the only way to do that is to hire Vin Diesel’s team from Fast 5 and work with them again. I have to give Luke Evans credit for this role, because he’s actually the best villain the series has had so far. Well, until we see Jason Statham in Furious 7. There’s also a twist where a character that everyone thought died a few movies ago is actually alive! It’s thankfully not lazily written, and turned out to be a good plot point.

The characters are basically the same from the last film. They’re still fun to watch and the actors all do a good job. You can tell that each of them is having a blast with their roles, and that enjoyment sort of rubs off on the audience. Fast 5 did the same thing, and it’s good that they kept that same sort of feel for #6.

Do I even need to describe the action in this one? Like I said, the characters take on a battle tank and a humongous plane! The car stunts are just as awesome as Fast 5, and the fights are brutal. I loved every second of it.

It’s really more of what people wanted to see since Fast 5. #6 is just as great as its predecessor. How fitting a statement, since both of them just happened to get the same exact score on my blog.

FINAL RATING: 46 / 50
STORY: 4 / 5

STUNTS/EFFECTS: 5 / 5
ACTION: 5 / 5
SOUNDTRACK: 4 / 5

REWATCH VALUE: 5 / 5
OWNING VALUE: 5 / 5

I will tell you that the only Fast and Furious movies that you absolutely NEED to watch, if you can’t watch all of them, are Fast 5 and Fast 6. Maybe we could throw in the 4th movie, since it does tie into the 6th one pretty closely. Speaking of tying in, Tokyo Drift finally has relevance to the main plot! It’s a brief scene at the end, and it introduces Jason Statham as #7’s big villain! Now I absolutely need to see it! And that is going to be my next review. I’m excited as hell to see what they’re going to do next, and I’m sure that it will pay a heartwarming tribute to Paul Walker. There’s no doubt about that.
