Fast and Furious (2009) movie review

Not only is the lack of a number in the title annoying, but the resemblance to the first film’s title is confusing. To people who don’t know, they might think this is the first one. But it’s actually the fourth. They think the lack of ‘the’s makes it different. It doesn’t. It just messes with people.

I’d say this is the 2nd best one of the series. My favorite so far is still 2 Fast 2 Furious. They learned their lesson with the third one, and decided to go back to the characters audiences remember and want to see more of. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel return to pull off another mission which involves yet again going undercover and taking down a crime lord. But this time, they both have different motives for stopping him. Paul’s character is once again a cop tasked with catching the crime lord, and Vin Diesel loses someone he cared about that was killed by the same guy Paul is after. It’s a pretty good storyline, with Vin and Paul going for the same criminal and having to work together again. I won’t waste time in discussing Paul Walker’s acting, because he’s done enough by this point that we know what he can do. Vin Diesel, on the other hand, is much better than he was in the first one. The filmmakers don’t underuse him. They use him to the best of his abilities in an action movie, and I can only see him doing better from this point on.

The story is good, the characters are good, the car scenes are still cool, though not as impressive of flashy as Tokyo Drift’s racing, and the cars themselves aren’t as extravagant or ridiculous. They’re more realistically cool. While I did say that the racing isn’t as flashy, the car wrecks are awesome. You could feel the pain of the car and the drivers.

Other than that, there isn’t much more to say about Fast and Furious (4). It’s good, fun, and unlike Tokyo Drift, it feels like a Fast and Furious movie. I’d say to skip over Tokyo Drift and go right to this one after 2 Fast 2 Furious. You wouldn’t be missing much, and it’d be a lot more fun.
