2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) movie review

This is one of the few times that a sequel is better than the original. And 2 Fast 2 Furious is better than its predecessor by a landslide.

There isn’t much to not like about this movie, other than the fact that Vin Diesel isn’t in it. At Least we have Tyrese Gibson, who’s also a good actor. Tyrese Gibson and Paul Walker team up to go undercover in order to take down a crime lord. The whole ‘go undercover and get close to the criminal’ thing is very similar to the first movie’s plot, but I think it’s done much better this time around. The movie is more focused on the story, which makes it that much more interesting.

The characters are even more enjoyable, my favorite being Tyrese Gibson. Not only are they fun, but they’ve got a lot more depth. The friendship between Walker and Gibson seems real. The comradery is felt in every scene they’re together in. The villain they’re trying to take down is actually a menacing guy, and all the other actors do an alright job in their roles.

To me, the story and characters are the biggest improvements, but the most impressive improvement is the high speed action scenes. The cinematography is better, the cars look way cooler, and the racing/chase sequences are infinitely superior. The climactic police chase is complete chaos! There had to have been over 200 cars in that entire sequence! They flood the streets and cause utter mayhem! It’s awesome!

Another thing I liked was the music. It’s not the type I’d ever listen to, but it goes really well with the scenes. There’s also a lot more humor in this than the first. That’s part of what makes it so much more fun to watch than the first.

In conclusion, 2 Fast 2 Furious may have a dumb title, but it’s one impressively fun and action packed movie. If you didn’t like the first one, I have a feeling that the second one is going to be the one for you.
